It’s Monday, the first of May. You’re probably a fashionista, so you know that the Met Gala is coming up. The theme for this year’s Met Gala is Superfine: Tailoring Black Style. This exhibition explores the history of Black dapperism and how dressing yourself can be a way to create and assert identity. The evening will also be the first in over 20 years that the menswear theme is the main focus. This is exciting news for fans who are looking at stars such as Colman Domingo and Lewis Hamilton.
Don’t be surprised to see many suits on the red carpet, as “Tailored For You” is the official dress code. You shouldn’t expect to see them as standard but given the nature of the event. It’s easier to understand and execute this theme than, say, 2019’s camp: Notes on Fashion. So we’re preparing for the guys to go all out. Will there be bold, big suits with double-breasted jackets? Without a doubt. Colour combinations that are daring? Absolutely. What about hats? You better believe it.
