Everyone needs macros. If you don’t use them, you’re not up to speed :-)

Do the button presses you want it to fire, and if you like, add a pause between them. You can set it to run a number of times, or do just one pass.
You can call it from any application with a single keystroke, or set a timer to give you the opportunity to switch back to where you need it.

We use it to rename clips in AVID bins, add filters on the sources in ProCoder, re-create sequences in 844/x and any other thing we’re to lazy to do it by hand.
