The Adobe CS5 Production Suite has been running circles around FCP for me lately. And after using it on a fully loaded machine with a Quadro card, it has sealed the deal. 4k Red Native, Effects, Loading After effects comps, adjusting audio with sound booth. No need to export out any comps or audio files it was all just linked together seamlessly.
Impossible to use other apps instead of CS4...
Photoshop if for me, next to FCP the application I use the most

I purchased the Production Premium 5.5. There is a lot to like about the package without considering PP. Encore and the Media Encoder are worth the price. I use them constantly. PP works really well even without the approved video cards (Radeon 5770). It won't capture HDV without audio sync issues which is not a problem for me because I capture with a Matrox Mini MXO 2, but is odd. The same system captures HDV perfectly with FCP 7.
