P2 Flow

P2 Flow is a metadata editor, player and logging application for the Panasonic P2 format. It integrates seamlessly with Final Cut Pro, Compressor and other applications through a unique set of workflow features. P2 Flow takes advantage of the native MXF file access in conjunction with MXF Import QT that allows to access the native P2 MXF media without the need to convert the files.

Metadata Editor:
P2 Flow allows editing of all P2 metadata. All changes are saved in the original P2 XML and fully comply with the P2 metadata specifications from Panasonic. Like this it is guaranteed that the metadata will be also available in other P2 compatible applications and systems. All P2 metadata will be available in your Final Cut Pro project including User Clip Name and even Memo List Items.

Direct Final Cut Pro Integration:
In combination with MXF Import QT you can edit the footage in Final Cut Pro straightaway without the need to pass it through the conversion process with Log and Transfer. In addition to the native MXF integration you can also send offline clips to Final Cut Pro and still batch ingest them with Log and Transfer or you can even freely mix your selection of native MXF and QuickTime MOV assets. For example you can send all spanned clips in offline mode to Final Cut Pro and ingest them as one single media file but also keep all other assets as native MXF clips in your project. No other application provides this kind of tight compatibility for a free choice between a native MXF and Final Cut Pro's standard Log and Transfer workflow.

Direct Compressor Integration:
In combination with MXF Import QT you can transcode P2 clips directly via Compressor. All you have to do is to select a Compressor encoding preset in P2 Flow's preferences and define a destination. The encoding is done in background without the need to launch and set up Compressor manually. This allows you to take advantage of Compressor's extensive encoding settings including the usage of video filters and format conversion settings. For example you can easily create proxies including burned-in timecode or you can batch convert P2 clips to uncompressed, ProRes, DNxHD or other editing formats.

Direct Elgato Turbo.264 HD Integration:
In addition to Compressor there is also support for Elgato's Turbo.264 HD solution for easy and fast H.264 proxy creation. The workflow is similar to Compressor and there is also an auto-encode option available to start the encoding process directly from P2 Flow. One unique feature is to fuse selected P2 clips to one single encoded H.264 clip. In this workflow chapter markers can be added to the encoded clip. The chapter marker names are based on the orignal P2 user clip names. It has never been so easy to create proxies from P2. Watch the screencast.

Virtual Tape:
A Virtual Tape can be created from a selection of clips or all loaded clips. This fast and useful clip creation also works across multiple cards. A little QuickTime reference movie will be created that links to the original MXF media. The movie can be imported directly into Final Cut Pro and other QuickTime applications including Avid.
