Counter Display
Counter Display is a freeware script Generator that displays a counter to be applied (superimposed) to any clip or set of clips in the Final Cut Express or Final Cut Pro timeline.
The user may decide whether the counter counts up or down; choose among different formats; choose the value to start from, the speed of the counter or the interval between counter increments. As an alternative the counter may be keyframed (in FCE3.5 or FCP) to freely modify the counting rate. The generated counter text may also be formatted and freely positioned in the frame.
FCP has a similar function (but it is a filter, not a generator, in Video/Timecode Filters) that provides less choices than Counter Display. As an example, with Counter Display you can apply the counter to a whole sequence without nesting it, or you can choose to count at different speeds in different directions. It also provides the possibility to keyframe the counter.
- Added HD handling and progressive frame rates.
This generator has been tested in Final Cut Express HD v3.5 and Final Cut Pro v5.1, but it will likely work also in other versions of FCE and FCP as long as they provide support for the fxscript language.

When I feel the need to create a plug-in to solve a problem, I go to Piero's site. There's a good chance that he had the problem before me, and he's come up with a solution with all the features I need.
This plug-in does what I need right now, and will be useful in lots of situations in the future.
