I have the same console except I added a second corner unit to put a second edit system in the mix. Your setup looks great and the colored walls, though against the neutral gray convention, inspire me to bring back the color to my room as well. Do you find the console surface dents very easily? Mine does. How is the Tascam? I have the Mackie but it's awfully big.

Peaceful New Year,

I was a bit concerned about the red color when I first painted the walls but it doesn't seem to affect my color grading. So I figure to hell with the neutral gray convention, you only live once and I spend too many hours a day in my suite to live in a black hole!

The desk is fairly soft wood so it does dent a bit easier than oak.

I love the Tascam FW1082 because it has analogue input as well as being a control surface for FCP, Soundtrack, Logic and it can even be assigned to do functions in Motion.

cheers, greg

If this console is so popular, would someone please post a link? I'm due a redesign. Thanks!

By console do you mean the desk or the mixer?

The desk is from Ikea, the GALANT system.

The mixer/control surface is the Tascam FW1082.

Sorry, the desk....I guess I will have to go there - I don't see the curves on line. Thanks!

The pieces are all there on the Ikea site though it's not really well thought out. Find the right main piece and and go to the "table tops and frames" pull down menu and you'll see them. I do really like it after paying huge sums of money to have consoles built that were too bulky and ugly. There are several different colors and I'm told that the darker colors are harder. I cussed a lot putting it together but it's all good. Go to my profile, "Mississippi Son" and see if it lets you view my setup. Though not as clean it is very functional.

Good luck,
Donny

Ah...oops that was a bug. Fixed now. Rig images are visible on profile pages again.

What do you use the Tascam 1082 for? i am a video editor, but have not really specialized on sound so far. Does an editor require such a piece of equipment, even if he doesn't know much about sound?
BTW i really like your whole setup.

As I rough cut documentaries I do a rough mix of audio to make it easier to hear production dialogue, scratch narration and music. I use the mixer as a quick way to set audio levels or solo and mute audio tracks. Plus the Tascam is also an analogue input device to record narration or other audio bits with conventional microphones. I also us a variety of USB mics but they are not as good as the traditional ones. Once my shows are finish thought I always send them to an audio post facility for a final broadcast mix.

I had a 1082 and loved it. The audio portion blew out and it became a very advanced mouse. I still had complete control over things, just no sound. So I replaced it with an M-Audio Project Mix IO. Which I also love. One advantage over the Tascam - 8 mic preamps. One advantage of the Tascam - analog mixer capability.

Either one is a valuable tool, and I don't know how I ever got by without a control surface.

I have the Mackie MCU and the most awesome thing about it (beside the obvious audio control) is the Jog knob. It's weighted and the software works flawlessly with it. The M-Audio surface has a similar knob but it's a bit smaller but it too is an I/O device. I have a digital audio board so I don't need that option. Having touch sensitive automated audio control is fantastic. We do lots of docs and though I have a Pro Tools rig for mastering, the ability to mix and set levels in real time saves an enormous amount of time. For lower budget PBS docs we've mixed everything in FCP using the Mackie and never ever had any client make anything other than positive comments. Lastly, the new Euphonix contol system looks great and has a smaller footprint...maybe for our next system...
