Amal Clooney Returns to the Red Carpet Solo, in a Cannes Dress Code-Breaking Gown

Amal Clooney, without her husband, George Clooney, returned to the Cannes Film Festival last night. She walked the red carpet for the screening of Bono’s Stories of Surrender documentary. Amal Clooney, a human rights lawyer and celebrated humanitarian, can hold her own. She chose to keep to the glamorous style and vintage selections that make a standout Amal Clooney night look.

Clooney was spotted at the Palais des Festivals wearing a vintage Christian Dior gown from the John Galliano era. The dress featured a full-length silhouette, dramatic train, sweetheart neckline, and waist-nipping shape. Clooney’s dress was in line with her usual red carpet style, but it also broke the new Cannes Film Festival dress codes. Recent rules are gaining attention because they ban nudity, more risque dresses, and trains. However, the new rules also aim to prevent more voluminous or dramatic looks.

Clooney accessorized with diamond drop earrings and silver cocktail rings. She also carried a compact black bag. Clooney’s glam was subdued, with nude lipstick and soft, smoky eye makeup.

Dimitris Giannetos, a celebrity stylist who has styled Demi Moore and Gigi’s sweeping awards-season ‘dos’ into voluminous waves using a caramel balayage, transformed her almost waist-length locks.

She was photographed on the red carpet with Bono, The Edge, and U2. Bono is a friend of the Clooneys who attended their wedding in Venice in September 2014.

Clooney has always loved vintage, classic gowns that are show-stoppers. In September last year, she wore a black velvet Atelier Versace gown with an off-the-shoulder neckline to the 2024 Albie Awards, presented by the Clooney Foundation for Justice.

Clooney’s red carpet appearances are rare, but you can expect to see her in vintage or Versace. Last year’s fashion experimented with bolder colours and patterns.
