The spring and summer sunglasses trends all revolve around showcasing your personality. No more blah sunglasses that you wear when you feel uninspired. These bold, colourful and attention-grabbing shades will enhance all of your summer outfits, even if they’re only a tank top and jeans.
Two trends dominated the runways this season. Chloe, Miu Miu, and Tory Burch all showed bohemian-style shades from the ’70s in their spring/summer shows. These are perfect to pair with vintage clogs and romantic dresses. On the other hand, Prada, Tory Burch, and Gucci sent futuristic and hyper-sporty shades down the runway. The models looked like they had just come out of the gym. Shop the best pairs of sunglasses this season below.
1. Retro aviators
We couldn’t be more pleased that cool girls are reclaiming chunky aviators in the style of the ’70s. The most popular material at the moment, however, is thick, expressive plastic. While wire-rimmed options will always be in style, they are not the only option. These bold picks – including those from Aire and Elisa– are versatile enough to be worn with full suits or trendy dresses but also daring enough to dress up a low-key look. Don’t forget about the aviator-shields hybrids that instantly bring any look to 11.
2. Oval sunnies
We see the same silhouette everywhere we look in spring: ovals. This is not surprising since they go with anything and are timeless. Celine’s Triomphe shades are a good place to start, as they were the first ones to start the trend. They also come in every price range. Miu Miu’s Regard sunglasses are another major influence. They are on other brands’ mood boards (and were straight-up ripped off at Amazon). These playful and versatile options are hard to go wrong.
3. Boho frames
Retro-boho shapes are a big trend this season, ushered in by luxury brands like Chloe, but now available by everyone. They’re oversized, romantic, and eye-catching–everything a great pair of sunnies should be. We could easily see Steve Nicks or Sienna Miller wearing these frames. You can keep your style feeling effortless by pairing your choice with a ruffled shirt and flared denim or a maxidress paired with country sandals.
4. Sporty shades
The influence of athleticism on fashion is growing, especially as the summer approaches. It’s no surprise that this year’s eyewear has become more sporty with the rise of athleisure. We’re still envious of the Tory Burch spring runway sunglasses, which the models wore like they were heading to a soccer match. Wear them with a slinky top and wide-leg track pants or elevated sweats to channel an active, wealthy energy.
5. Mod silhouettes
Gucci, Prada and Celine all channelled the ’60s’ hallmarks in this season’s catwalks. As a result, sharp cat-eyes and buggy shades fit for Jackie O are back, as well as horn-rimmed sunglasses. It’s only fitting that we are now living in a new era of cultural change. Wear these frames with contemporary clothing. We love them with a thin sweater and denim cutoff shorts.
